Background
Charlie's Learning Corner was founded by Charles Guan. With over 5,000 hours of experience in 1-on-1 lessons, tutorials, and exam preparations, Charles specializes in high school mathematics and physics, as well as undergraduate calculus, algebra, statistics, economics, and finance.
Philosophy
Charles is deeply passionate about education and teaching, firmly believing that the key to academic success lie in a combination of intuitive understanding and targeted practice. Over the years, he has refined his tutoring methods and materials around this principle.
Why We Stand Out
Unlike many tutoring services that offer generic, one-size-fits-all approaches and simply provide passive help on school work, Charles is great at understanding students' pain points and providing help most suitable for each individual student. Charles is an expert at explaining complex concepts in intuitive ways, demonstrating when it is acceptable to memorize information and when a thorough understanding is essential.
Every session is fully packed and never rushed. Each minute is dedicated to teaching, interactive student-teacher discussion, or practicing together. There is no idle or "independent work" time during tutoring sessions.
Students also receive PDF notes after each session, and have access to ongoing support throughout the week.

The length of each session depends on the student and the course.
Elementary math classes are generally 45 minutes to 1 hour, which is most suitable for the age group.
For high school students, 1 to 1.5 hours is recommended.
University students can generally handle up to 2 hours per session, depending on the amount and difficulty of the material and urgency.
In-person tutoring is generally held at the student's home, or if the student prefers, at a public library.
In-person tutoring is available for Aurora, Burlington, Markham, North York, and Oakville.
Yes, we offer online tutoring sessions, mainly for university students. Online tutorials are also available to high school students on demand. We do not recommend online sessions for Grade 10 and younger.
